The Bundeswehr is coming to Houston – Commander Colonel Ingo Kresser of the German Air Force Air Defense Center (GAFADC), based at Fort Bliss (TX) and Fort Sill (OK), and Deputy Commander of the GAFADC based at Fort Bliss, Lieutenant Colonel Martin Herter, will present their training operations in Texas and Oklahoma at the Houston-Leipzig Sister City Association meeting on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the American Red Cross Building, 2700 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77098.
They will talk about their individual roles as well as the role of the German Military in the US. COL Kresser serves as the GAFADC’s commander and is stationed in Fort Sill, while LTC Herter is in charge of its day-to-day operations. More than 60,000 German Air Force officers have been training for over 60 years in Texas on various weapons; today they train on Patriot weapon systems. For some of the soldiers El Paso is their second hometown; they have made friends with their neighbors and actively take part in social and family activities.
Check-in begins at 6:15 p.m. and the food and beverage reception starts at 6:30 p.m. The meeting and guest speaker will start at 7:00 p.m. The fee of $10.00 for Houston-Leipzig members, of $15.00 for guests, and of $5.00 for students, funds the costs for our meetings.
