Houston Ladder 16

Many of you know Secilia Pappert, freelance radio and newspaper journalist, who visited Houston twice, and was one of the members of the Buergerreise from Leipzig this past February. Here you can find an excellent interview by her with District Chief Jimmy McDonald and firefighters at Fire Station 16 in Houston (click on the link below).

The piece ran on Easter Monday (4-2-2018) six different times on MDR AKTUELL das Nachrichtenradio (MDR Newsradio for Saxony, Thuringia, and Saxony-Anhalt).

“United in Difficult Times-Leipzig Firefighters Donate to Houston Colleagues after Hurricane Harvey”

Moderator:
At the end of August 2017, Hurricane Harvey, one of the most devastating hurricanes in recent decades, completely paralyzed Leipzig’s sister city, the City of Houston. In the powerful Texas metropolis a state of emergency was called – nothing worked any longer.   Tens of thousands lost their homes, 82 people their lives. When the Leipzig firefighters saw the images of destruction, they wanted to help their colleagues. They collected money – and it was presented in Houston by the  Städtepartnerschaft Leipzig–Houston  e.V.  in February.  Secilia Pappert was there.
