Leoporello Neo Rauch 2005

The Leipzig School – is it hype, is it real, is it dead?   Actually, what is the Leipzig School?  Is it an authentic ideological art movement or merely a mercantile phenomenon created by the art market?  Is it a new way to channel an impression and express it on canvas, or is it a catchall phrase for painters who just happen to create all kinds of different art in Leipzig?  Could it even be something more elusive and at the same time more substantial than any of the above?  Who says “The Leipzig School is Dead”?  Whether you’re an art connoisseur of the finest water or whether you “know what you like when you see it” – do come to Houston-Leipzig’s presentation by Dr. Volker Eisele, long-time art dealer in Houston, on Thursday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m.  at 2353 Rice Boulevard, Houston, TX  77005.

The involvement of Dr. Volker Eisele and his wife Dr. Ute Eisele stems from their time in Munich as medical students, where they had their first gallery Grafikbuechse at the end of the 1960s. While engaged in a successful medical practice in Houston, Volker Eisele became a partner in the well-known William Graham Gallery, a collaboration that lasted until the death of William Graham in 1992. In 1995 the Eiseles re-entered the art market with their ArtScan Gallery, first at Vine Street, and a few years later relocated with a new partner to their current space on Richmond.  The gallery focuses on representational/figurative art and installation projects.

We will have our customary food and beverage reception in the Parish Hall of Christ the King Lutheran Church at 6:30 p.m. Registration will begin at 6:15 p.m., 15 for nonmembers, $10 for members, and $5 for students.   Please RSVP as soon as possible to angelika@houstonleipzig.org .
