With one of the first cold fronts in town – it’s beginning to look lot like Christmas – at least at Spec’s Midtown, where lots of Christmas goodies came in for all those who love German holiday treats, and for all those whose first bite of a Pfeffernuss or a Dominostein evokes Christmases past. It’s all there, the Stollen, Printen (with or without chocolate), Baumkuchen, Spekulatius, an assortment of ginger breads, Vanillakipferl, Oma’s Gewuerzgebaeck, Spitzkuchen, Zimtsterne, and of course, Lebkuchen. I am sure you don’t have to look too hard to find some Gluehwein. If you close your eyes and imagine the Christmas Market in Leipzig, or in Nuremberg, or some other German town . . . . Next week, they will have Adventskalender. So, indulge the child in you, and venture into your culinary past or create some culinary traditions for your family.
