As the Houston Early Music Festival comes to a close, the Bach Society Houston presents Bach’s Mass in B Minor, a monumental masterpiece, as the festival’s culminating event on Sunday evening. It is a performance you should not miss. The Bach Society Houston dedicates the performance of the mass to Robert B. Lynn, its first artistic director, who died on Tuesday.
Peter Kopp, one of the most respected early music specialists in Germany, will direct the event. The Bach Choir will perform along with the Mercury Orchestra and five outstanding vocal soloists: Meredith Ruduski, soprano; Julia Dawson, soprano; Ryland Angel, countertenor; Randall Umstead, tenor; and David Grogan, bass.
There will be a pre-concert lecture at 5:15 pm given by Rice University musicologist Dr. Gregory Barnett, a specialist in Baroque-era instrumental music, and an excellent speaker. The lecture will take place in the Founder’s Club at Zilkha Hall (3rd Floor, above Artista Restaurant). The ushers will direct you.
