2025 President Mike Laster’s Welcome
Michael H. Laster
As you receive this message, I hope that you and your loved ones experienced a joy-filled and memorable Holiday Season. On behalf of the Houston-Leipzig Sister City Association, the Board and I wish you and yours a prosperous and productive 2025.
I am honored and excited to serve as the 2025 Houston-Leipzig President. This year I hope we take steps to re-commit ourselves to the goals and vision of Houston-Leipzig; to remember and honor our productive history and early leaders; to envision and imagine the years ahead; and, to build on the strong foundation of international fellowship that we have worked so hard to cultivate. I look forward to working with you all to insure a bright future for Houston-Leipzig.
“THANK YOUS” ARE IN ORDER
Allow me to extend our community thanks to:
Susan and Leonard Teich for hosting the Houston-Leipzig Christmas Party at their lovely home overlooking Hermann Park. Our December gathering was the second time that Susan and Len have opened their home to us. The various pot-luck dishes, good wine and beer, our festive spirits and Christmas Carols sung from the heart made for a wonderful evening. Thanks again, to the Teichs for their generous hospitality.
Steve Braun! Steve’s 4th tenure in serving as Houston-Leipzig’s President for 2024 was a great success. 2024 year was a busy year for us. Steve navigated the ins-and-outs of each project with grace and good humor. A longtime member of Houston-Leipzig, Steve has served on our Board for many years. I know you join me in thanking Steve for a job well done. I am personally glad that he will continue to serve on our Board and help guide us into the future. Thanks, Steve.
Gary Hollingsworth and All 2024 Houston-Leipzig Board Members
Houston-Leipzig is blessed to have a wonderful working Board. They make everything happen. Thanks to all the Board Members who served in 2024 and who have agreed to continue serving during the next few years. Special thanks are due to Gary Hollingsworth. Gary served out his most recent term and has decided to take a sabbatical from Board service. By sabbatical, I mean — we look forward to his future return to the Board. Thanks Gary. |

BUSY SPRING 2025
2025 is shaping up to rival 2024 in important Houston-Leipzig activities. Please mark your calendars for these upcoming Member Meetings:
JANUARY — MEETING AT THE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS: on Thursday, January 16, at 6:30 pm at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Dr. Helga Aurisch will give a talk on MFAH’s exhibit Gauguin in the World, which offers new perspectives on Gauguin’s life and work. Those of you who have been privileged to participate in Dr. Aurisch’s lectures, know what a special event this will be. We will send more details soon.
FEBRUARY — SPECIAL MEETING BEING PLANNED: on Thursday, February 13 or 20, our usual venue at Christ the King Lutheran Church will not be available on our customary meeting date. So, we will either host the meeting a week early or on our usual day, but at a different venue. Stay tuned for more information.
MARCH — ST. THOMAS CHOIR AND LEIPZIG CITY VISIT: March will bring a Houston visit from the St. Thomas Choir and Leipzig City Officials. The Bach Society Houston is hosting the Choir; its only Houston performance will take place at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 16, at Stude Concert Hall on the Rice University Campus. Tickets can be purchased from the Houston Bach Society. We hope to see a good many of you at this event. We expect to host a welcome reception or other gathering during this visit. Look for upcoming information about this important event.
Again, Happy New Year and SEE YOU AT THE MUSEUM!
