We welcome our 2021 President Mark Buehler. Many of you know Mark. He has been a faithful member from the very beginning, and we look forward to a year under his reign. Following is his President’s Message for January.
Dear Members and Friends,
On behalf of Houston-Leipzig, I wish you a Happy New Year. As the unforgettable year 2020 has ended, we have much to be thankful for and also much to anticipate in 2021. We may regret lost opportunities over the past year because of the corona virus but we should also rejoice in our accomplishments recently described by Pat Gilmore-Maass, our 2020 President. We thank Pat for her diligent service under difficult conditions.
Our board of directors is organizing ambitious programs for 2021, starting with a Zoom presentation by Dr. James Kearney on Saturday, January 16 at 11:30, in which he will discuss his translation and annotation of The Forty-Eighters of Possum Creek, authored by W.A. Trenckmann. The novel, based on the lives of newly-arrived German immigrants in 19th Century Texas, covers personal, regional and national conflicts in the American War between the States.
