Paul-Hopper-headshotPaul Hopper is back by popular demand!  Remember the wonderful presentation he gave us last year about Die Walkuere?  Everyone was enthralled.  Now he will tell us about a great spectacle, masterful storytelling, and electrifying music.  This is the year of Siegfried – the first hero and mortal to appear in a world of gods, demigods, protagonists, and antiheroes.

HGO Siegfried Image 2Walk with us into the world of Siegfried and let us explore this mythical hero and Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelungen’s roots in Germanic and Norse mythology on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. at the American Red Cross Building, 2700 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX  77098.  Have a sandwich, a glass of wine, sit back and enjoy Paul’s presentation.  Registration begins at  6:15 p.m., our food and beverage reception at 6:30 p.m., and the program at 7:00 p.m.  Cost for the meeting is $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers, and $5 for students.

Pennsylvania native Paul Hopper currently serves as dramaturg at Houston Grand Opera, where he acts as the resident opera information source. Paul’s duties in Houston include engaging the community in advance of upcoming operas through lectures, interviews and panel discussions, managing the organization’s research and development efforts for new and existing operas, and translating and designing surtitles for all productions.

Previous to joining Houston Grand Opera in 2013, Paul served as Associate Manager of Vocalists at ADA Artist Management in New York City, where he co-managed a roster of over 50 singers, conductors and directors. A long time lover of light opera and operetta, Paul acted as Managing Director for Light Opera of New York for the 2012-2013 season and remains a member of the company’s Board of Directors. Additionally, Paul has held positions at the Metropolitan Opera in the Lectures and Community Engagement department, and at Santa Fe Opera. Paul recently attended Opera Europa’s third annual Opera Management Course in Peralada, Spain – a leadership intensive for burgeoning leaders in opera management.

Paul holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Houston.
