HLSRPlease join us on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. in welcoming Gary McHenry, a Life Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Executive Vice Chairman of the Speakers Committee, Member of the  Mutton Bustin Committee, and a Member of the Salt Grass Trail Association, and its Magnificent Wagon 7. The Salt Grass Trail is the oldest trail ride, and began in 1952, when four men came to Houston on horseback from Brenham. Find out everything that you ever wanted to know about this spectacular event in Houston.

The brainchild of seven men who met at the Texas State Hotel (now defunct) in 1931, the Houston Live Stock Show has grown to a star-studded entertainment happening for everyone in the family. For twenty day nightly rodeos and popular concerts attract an average of 70,000 people.  In 2014, the BBQ Contest attracted almost 250,000 visitors; total attendance was 2,485,721 – an all-time record!  A carnival, a livestock show with family-friendly animal exhibits attract people from all over.  Everybody can have a great time, but more importantly, the purpose of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is to support the youth of Texas with scholarships – since 1932, nearly $375 million has been committed to the young people of Texas.  For 2015 the total educational commitment is $24,176,500.  The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a splendid event – it could not happen without the efforts and talents of over 31,000 volunteers!
