Thursday, September 18 – Houston-Leipzig presents the second part of the Wall films. The movie last month left us excited, overwhelmed, and thankful. This month we will face the aftermath — After the Wall: A World United. Is the Wall really history? Will the Russians leave indeed? What kind of Germany is in the offing? Do the English and French insist on two Germanys, or even the Germans themselves? Parish Hall, 6:30 p.m. Details to follow.

Saturday, September 20 – the Houston Saengerbund and the Houston Liederkranz celebrate their annual Oktoberfest.  Liederkranz Hall, 6:00 p.m.

Sunday, September 28 – the Bach Society Houston invites everyone to join them in their season opener, as well as help them welcome their new Director Rick Erickson at a reception afterwards.  Organ and Voice with Rick Erickson, Christ the King Lutheran Church, 6:00 p.m.

Tuesday, September 30 – Leipzig Students from the Hochschule fuer Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy are featured in a guest artist recital at Duncan Recital Hall, Shepherd School of Music, Rice University, 5:30 p.m. Find more information here [http://houstonleipzig.org/?p=3631].

Thursday, October 2Bach Society Houston Presents:  Chamber Music with Students of the Leipzig Conservatory (see note above).  The students will perform works by Schubert, Schumann, and Shostakovich.  Parish Hall, Christ the King Lutheran Church, 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, October 5 Bach Society Houston Presents:  Bach Vespers with Pre-Concert Lecture.  Christ the King Lutheran Church, 6:00 p.m.

Tuesday, October 21Three Leipzig high school students from the Houston-Leipzig Student Exchange 2014 are guests of Mayor Annise Parker and attend a Houston City Council meeting. Join them at City Council session, Houston City Hall, 2:00 p.m. (time may change).

Thursday, October 23 – for our monthly Houston-Leipzig meeting, we have been invited by the German Consul General Ricarda Redeker to the opening of a fabulous exhibit at The Printing MuseumPostcards from the Trenches: Germans and American Visualize the Great War, either at 6:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.

Friday, October 24 – November 7Houston Grand Opera opens its season with Otello, followed by Cosí fan tutte (October 30 – November 15). Sunday, November 2 – the German Consul General Ricarda Redeker and Houston-Leipzig cordially invite you to a panel discussion with audience participation at the James A Baker III Institute for Public Policy by experts and contemporary witnesses of the events in 1989 in anticipation of the Gewandhaus Orchestra concert the next day. Rice University, probably at 5:30 p.m.

Monday, November 3 – the Houston Symphony and Houston-Leipzig are bringing the Gewandhaus Orchestra for a fabulous concert to Houston! The Gewandhaus Orchestra begins its 2014 US tour in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall in Houston with an all-Mendelssohn program. Sunday, November 16Bach Society Houston Presents: Chamber Music with Rick Erickson (harpsichord), Sigurd Melvær Øgaard (harpsichord), and Barrett Sills (violoncello). Christ the King Lutheran Church, 6:00 p.m.

Thursday, November 20 Annual Meeting of Houston-Leipzig at the MFAH. After a brief business meeting, Dr. Helga Aurisch will give one of her fabulous guided tours of an exhibition she curated — Monet and the Seine: Impressions of a River. Museum of Fine Arts, 6:30 p.m.

Monday, November 24 Sebastian Krumbiegel reprises his success from last year! If you missed Sebastian, one of the “Prinzen” (an enormously popular pop-group with 14 gold records, six platinums, and over five million recordings) from Leipzig, you must see him in concert (in English). Parish Hall, 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, December 11 – We round out the year with a Christmas/Holiday party, time and location to be announced.
