Why is it that when there is a fabulous event that you really want to attend, you find that there is always one equally enticing at the same time?
This Thursday, January 24, 2013, the German American Chamber of Commerce in the Southern United States (Houston) cordially invites you to its New Year’s Reception on Thursday, January 24, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the German Language Center, 3516 Mt. Vernon, Houston, TX 77006. “As the New Year begins and the old one ends, we invite you to celebrate with us!“ Enjoy Champagne & Hors d’oeuvres from Charivari & Epicure Café and help support the German Language Center by participating in a silent auction! Click here for more details and registration information.
Also on Thursday, January 24, 2013, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., McClain Gallery, 2242 Richmond Avenue, Houston, TX 77098, is pleased to present the first exhibition of German artist Rosa Loy in the South. Loy is associated with a contemporary German painting movement loosely referred to as the New Leipzig School, and as one of the few women members of the group, her dream-like narratives express an intimate point of view. Her solo show, titled Souvenir, includes a selection of recent paintings and new works on paper. Her husband Neo Rauch is often referred to as the principal artist of the New Leipzig School. All friends and members of Houston-Leipzig are cordially invited to the opening reception. Click here for more information.
On Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. the Museum of Fine Arts Director Gary Tinterow moderates an informal conversation with German artists Rosa Loy and Neo Rauch at the Freed Auditorium at the Glassell School of Art, 1001 Bissonnet, Houston, Texas 77005. Our Houston-Leipzig President Ute Eisele and her husband gallery owner Volker Eisele will translate the dialog. Admission to this program is free and open to the public. Seating is limited.
