Fall is supposed to be here, and we’re waiting . . . waiting . . . waiting for the cool front.  Just don’t let that deter you from participating in the myriad of activities that October has in store for you.

Austrian Day and Office Day– Tomorrow, Thursday, October 3, Austrians and Friends of Austria have their monthly Stammtisch at Rudy Lechner’s on Gessner.  The Austrian Embassy will hold an Office day at the Austrian Consulate on October 10 and 11.  For more information, please call the Austrian Consulate at 713-723-9979 or visit their website www.austrianconsulatehouston.org .

Leipzig Woche– The Bach Society Houston continues its offerings from Leipzig with a chamber music concert by Leipzig Conservatory Students Katharina Litschig (violoncello) and Toshihiro Kaneshoge (piano) on Friday, October 4, at 7:30 p.m.  On Sunday, October 6, at 6:0 p.m.,the Leipzig Woche culminates with the first Abendmusik Concert of the season under the direction of Matthew Dirst, who delighted us with Bach’s Goldberg variations in September, with works by Bach’s sons performed by the Bach Choir Houston and Mercury. Tickets for both concerts are on sale on the BSH website. 

On another note, while you are on the Bach Society Houston website, please do buy your tickets for the concerts by the world-famous St. Thomas Boys Choir (Thomanerchor) for their performances on November 9 and 10, 2013, at Stude Hall Rice University.  The content of the two concerts differ each evening.

Oktoberfests – what would October be in Houston without them.  The first one is in Kemah this weekend October 4 – 6 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), sponsored by the City of Kemah and Budweiser.  For more details check out the festival website http://oktoberfest.gulfcoastfestivals.com/index.html . The German-American Chamber of Houston is repeating its success of last year with a gigantic Oktoberfest on October 19 at the Northwest Mall.  Get your tickets now on their website !

Houston-Leipzig at the MFAH on October 17– mark your calendar.  We are in for another treat with Dr. Helga Aurisch and her colleague Dr. Cindy Strauss, Curator for Modern and Contemporary Decorative Arts and Design.  Both will present the exhibit Koloman Moser: Designing Modern Vienna 1897–1907.  More information will follow shortly.
