We hope you’ve had a wonderful holiday and for the new year we wish you health, happiness, and prosperity.  We would also like to thank our 2012 President Michael von der Osten for leading us last year, and welcome our 2013 President Dr. Ute Eisele at the helm, who was also our 2007 President.  In 2013 we celebrate our 20th anniversary, and have a bouquet of colorful events planned for you.  We also welcome our new board member Susan Teich, who already told us about her impressions from Leipzig in her post A Trip to Leipzig for the 800th Anniversary of St. Thomaskirche and of the Thomanerchor.  For a complete list of directors and officers of Houston-Leipzig, please check out the Houston-Leipzig Board Officers and Directors page on our website.

The first Houston-Leipzig meeting on January 17, 2013, is called Leipziger Allerlei or Houston Meets Leipzig.  Leipziger Allerlei means a bit of this, a bit of that, and is a famous dish made with the first tender vegetables of spring, each steamed separately, and then they are all lightly sauced with drawn crawfish butter, seasoned lightly with nutmeg and other spices, and arranged together elegantly on a plate, topped with crawfish from the Rivers Pleisse or maybe the Weisse Elster in Leipzig.

For our meeting, we are honored to welcome from Leipzig Dr. Wolfgang Zimmermann, First Vice President of the Staedtepartnerschaft Leipzig-Houston e.V., our sister organization in Leipzig, who will address the last twenty years of the sister city relationship between Houston and Leipzig, and Pastor Britta Tadikken from the St. Thomas Church in Leipzig,  From Houston we are honored to welcome Ellen Goldberg, President of Sister Cities of Houston, who will give us an update of the myriad activities jointly conducted by the seventeen sister cities of Houston, and presiding over all will be our 2013 President Dr. Ute Eisele, who will tell us about the exciting anniversary year ahead for Houston-Leipzig.

We cordially invite you to join us on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. for our food and beverage reception and the Leipziger Allerlei or Houston Meets Leipzig in the Parish Hall of Christ the King Lutheran Church, 2353 Rice Boulevard, Houston, TX 77005.  Check out our Events page for a map.  Parking is available at the Rice University parking lot 13 B off Greenbriar down the street from the church.  Meeting fees are $15 for nonmembers, $10 for members, and $5 for students.

Registration will start at 6:15 p.m. Please RSVP by clicking here  or to angelika@houstonleipzig.orgnow, so that we can plan properly for the reception.  We are looking forward to seeing you on Thursday evening.
