We have a great program for our annual meeting. Rice University Professor Stephen Klineberg will present amazing results from the annual Houston Survey. Come discover things you never knew about the make-up of Houston, one of the most diverse cities in the United States. Professor Klineberg is known for his lively and engaging presentations, and we are lucky to have him! He was in Leipzig earlier this year and spoke to the American Studies Program students at the University of Leipzig – they loved him!

Stephen Klineberg is Professor of Sociology and Co-Director of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research. A graduate of Haverford College near Philadelphia, Professor Klineberg received an M.A. in Psychopathology from the University of Paris and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Harvard. In March 1982, he and his students initiated the annual Houston Area Survey, now in its 29th year of tracking the changes in the demographic patterns, life experiences, attitudes, and beliefs of Harris County residents. The Houston region recovered from the collapse of the oil-boom in the 1980s to find itself squarely in the midst of a restructured economy and a demographic revolution. No other city in America has been the focus of a long-term longitudinal research program of this scope. None more clearly exemplifies the transformations that are refashioning the social and political landscape of urban America.

Do come to our annual meeting next Thursday, November 15, 2012, at First Christian Church, 1601 Sunset Boulevard, Houston, TX 77005. Please note that this is a different location from our usual place. We will start with our customary food and beverage reception at 6:30 p.m. – catered by Pablo Valqui and Spec’s – followed by a very brief business meeting and a great program by Professor Klineberg.

Check out our Events page for a map. There is plenty of parking at the church. Meeting fees are $15 for nonmembers, $10 for members, and $5 for students.

Registration will start at 6:15 p.m. Please RSVP by clicking here or to angelika@houstonleipzig.org now, so that we can plan properly for the reception. We are looking forward to seeing you on November 15.

Have a most wonderful weekend and enjoy the fall weather, one of our best times in Houston.
