Wer Früher Stirbt Ist Länger Tot

“The movie was fun and funny.”  “. . . like a Mel Brooks slapstick . . . .”  “We drank a lot of wine and laughed so hard.”  These are some of the comments we heard after last Thursday night’s movie.

For our second German Summer Movie Night, we have another evening of fun and laughter for you with our next feature Wer Früher Stirbt Ist Länger Tot. Once again a German comedy, but not of the slapstick type.  One reviewer thought that the “plot fits together perfectly, captures you completely, makes you laugh out loud hysterically at times and cry at others.”

Join us for an evening of enjoyment on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall of Christ the King Lutheran Church, 2353 Rice Boulevard, Houston, TX  77005.  The food and beverage reception begins at 6:30 p.m.  Wer Früher Stirbt Ist Länger Tot begins at 7:00 p.m. The movie will be shown in German with English subtitles.

Registration begins at 6:15 p.m.  The meeting fee is $7 for members, $10 for nonmembers, and $5 for students, regardless of whether you participate in the reception.  Parking is available on the Rice University Stadium lot off Greenbriar at Entrance 13B.

Please RSVP to Angelika Schmidt-Lange as soon as possible, so that we may plan for the refreshments.

Grave Decisions nicely approximates the impossible-to-translate-German “He who dies earlier is dead longer” – a title that invariably brings forth a double-take.  Once again, a German comedy – even though some have been heard to call that an oxymoron under their breaths.

The movie garnered four film awards in 2006.  It’s been said that it takes a child’s fantasy, combined with Bavarian Catholicism, and a series of hilarious events unfolds from this combination.
