The following letter is from Shelby Lyn Simms, a student from the Houston area currently studying at Abilene Christian University, who is raising money with a Leipzig or Bust Invitational Golf Tournament for her study trip to Leipzig this summer.
Hello!
2016 is going to be a great year as I plan to study abroad in Leipzig, Germany. For those who do not know, I have been blessed with the opportunity to attend Abilene Christian University and double major in Vocal Music Education and Vocal Performance. I am thrilled to be a part of an incredible program with professors who put their entire heart into their students to enrich a lifelong passion for music.
During the summer of 2016 I will have the chance to travel to Germany to study Music Literature as well as the ACU elective Cornerstone. I hope that you can support me in this journey that will allow me to be immersed in a once in a lifetime experience. I will be living with a group of students from ACU and a short train ride from St. Thomas Church where Johann Sebastian Bach composed many pieces. I will be walking along paths of history that are centuries old and I will be within arm’s reach of the greatest performers and music in the world.
This will be the first time that someone from my family will have the chance to travel to Europe. I sincerely appreciate any help that you are able to give and I am blessed beyond words by the love and support that I have received from my family and friends thus far in college.
The Leipzig or Bust Invitational will be held on May 16, 2016 with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start at Battle Ground Golf Club in Deer Park, TX. Come out to join us for this fun tournament to support a once in a lifetime opportunity. There will fun holes including a “Shelby Drive” and Opposite Drive as well as a fun opportunity from a wonderful sponsor (more details to come soon). The cost to play is $110 per player or $440 per team. You can also sponsor a team and hole sponsor for $500. Each player participating in the tournament will receive a free return round of golf for Battleground Golf Course. Hole sponsors can also be purchased for $100.
