Wolfgang SchmidtOur March meeting is coming close.  We will be back in our traditional venue at Christ the King’s Parish Hall on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 6:30 p.m.

The topic of the evening is Franz Kafka Today – Still Enigmatic and Fascinating presented by our board member Dr. Klaus Weissenberger, Professor at Rice University.

Like I, you may have a distant memory of Kafka from your years as a student – we will experience Kafka together.  This might be your first opportunity to “ingest” some of Kafka.  No question, Kafka is considered one of the most influential writers of the last century.  When I lived for some time in Prague, Kafka’s hometown, I tried–not very successfully– to understand Kafka as an adult, not to speak about feeble efforts during my school years.

We are blessed to have an expert on Kafka in Klaus Weissenberger.  It will be an exciting, multi-media lecture.  We will utilize the wonderful, new projection screen in the parish hall to “visualize” some of Kafka.  I guess one evening is not enough to understand Kafka, if this is possible at all.  However, we will get an idea about Kafka’s thinking and his influence on the thinking of some of the greatest minds of the 20th century.  Most of his works were published after his death.

Klaus will enlighten even experts, but will conduct a conversation with us lay persons as well.

Please join me for an interesting evening, become a Kafka authority, not necessarily a follower into a metamorphosis.

See on Thursday, and have a great week,

Wolfgang
2014 President
