Preparations are progressing nicely for our 20th Anniversary Celebration on September 21, 2013, at 6:30 p.m., at the Junior League.  If you are a member of Houston-Leipzig, you will already have received your invitation.  The dinner is for members only, and seating is limited.  If you have any questions about membership please let us know; also, please respond as soon as you can about your attendance at the dinner to angelika@hal-pc.org.

Meanwhile, with Labor Day hardly over and summer receding in memory, this weekend is already brimming with activities that might interest you.

On Friday, September 6, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. the Museum of Fine Arts is screening Houston, a film by German director Bastian Günther.  Starring Ulrich Tukur as a German headhunter, who is unsuccessfully trying to contact the CEO of a multinational corporation headquartered in the city, the heat, the humidity, and the hopelessness of his quest mirror his deepening alcoholism and hasten the spiral of the headhunter’s descent.  The Houston scenes are reminiscent of many in Wim Wenders’ iconic Paris, Texas.  Günther will be present for the screening on Friday, September 6, and the museum invites the audience for a reception in the museum galleries following the film.  The movie will be repeated on September 7 and 8 (check the listing for show times).  For tickets and more information, check the museum’s website:  http://www.mfah.org/films/houston/

The Bach Society Houston opens its 2013/14 season this Sunday, September 8, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church with a fabulous concert that is not to be missed: Matthew Dirst Plays Bach’s Goldberg Variations.  Imbued with a charming tale of an insomniac Count and of a pleasing nature, the Goldberg variations with their “keyboard fireworks and flourishes . . . dazzle listeners but put players to the test.”  Matthew Dirst is just such a virtuoso, who will dazzle the audience. Please find more information on the Bach Society Houston’s website:  http://bachsocietyhouston.org/event/2013_09_08_chamber_music

Have a wonderful weekend!
