Omamamia picWe hope you’ve had a wonderful summer so far.  If you stayed in town, maybe you saw some fireworks on July 4, had some barbecue, spent some time with family and friends or just relaxed and enjoyed Independence Day.

Thanks to our board members Walter and Eva Konrad, who brought a wonderful movie from Germany (with English subtitles), we’re back with Houston-Leipzig at the Movies: on Thursday, July 18, 2013, we delight you with the comedy Omamamia, starring an award-winning cast with Marianne Saegebrecht (Baghdad Café/Out of Rosenheim, Zuckerbaby, Martha und ich ), Giancarlo Giannini (Liebe und Anarchie, etc.), Anette Frier (Nora, etc.), Miriam Stein (Das Maedchen aus der Fremde), and Raz Degan.

Saegebrecht as Margarita defies her daughter Maria and sets out on a trip to Rome to see Pope Benedict XVI, as she needs to confess a youthful transgression, but only to him.  She intends to stay with her granddaughter Martina, who is living as an au pair with a strict, catholic family.  She also meets Lorenzo, a silver-tongued blind man, with whom she falls in love and intends to marry.  Surprise –  nothing is as it appears:  Martina shacks up with Silvio, an older tattoo artist and rocker; Lorenzo isn’t actually blind, but a charming conman; instead of kneeling before the Pope, Margarita pepper-sprays him . . . .  A “light-hearted romp through the splendors of Rome with an impressive international cast” will delight us as well.

The movie will be shown in the Parish Hall at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 2353 Rice Boulevard, Houston, TX  77005.  Registration begins at 6:15 p.m.; at 6:30 we will have our customary food and beverage reception, and the meeting and movie start at 7:00 p.m.  Meeting fees are $10 for members, $5 for students, and $15 for nonmembers.  Ample parking is available on the Rice University parking lot off Greenbriar for $1, credit cards only.

Please RSVP here or to angelika@houstonleipzig.org as soon as possible, so that we can plan the reception.
