Dear Members and Friends of the Houston-Leipzig Sister City Association,

We are pleased to invite you to the annual meeting of our organization on Thursday, November 17, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of Fine Arts, Audrey Jones Beck Building, 5601 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77005, where we will elect Directors and participate in another fabulous program by Dr. Helga Aurisch.

This year’s Nominating Committee, consisting of Steve Braun, Dr. Robert Moore, Michael von der Osten,  and Angelika Schmidt-Lange, will convene this weekend to select nominees for the HLSCA Board for the 2012 -2013 term.  We will inform you by email as soon as the nominees have been chosen.  Only members in good standing will be authorized to vote, and the treasurer will certify the list of members in good standing – so get your dues in now!

We are delighted that Dr. Aurisch will guide us through a brand-new exhibit, Dutch and Flemish Masterworks from the Rose-Mary and Eijk van Otterloo Collection.  The collection is one “of the world’s most spectacular private collections of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish paintings—including masterworks by Rembrandt, Gerrit Dou, Frans Hals, Willem (Claesz.) Heda, Jacob van Ruisdael, and Jan Steen,” and concludes a national tour here in Houston.  It is a privilege to have Dr. Aurisch on our board.  Her love and expertise of her subject add charm and excitement to her presentations.   Please check out the website of the MFAH for more information on the exhibit by clicking here.

Dr. Helga Kessler Aurisch joined the MFAH as assistant curator of European art in 2004. She received her BA from Smith College in 1975 and her MA and PhD from Albert-Ludwigs Universität, Freiburg, Germany, with honors, in 1978 and 1988 respectively. In 2010, she was promoted to Curator of European Art.

Dr. Aurisch just informed us that her colleague Leslie Scattone, two friends, and she will be playing some 18th-century flute music in the Life & Luxury exhibition galleries between 6:00 and 7:00 pm.  If anyone wants to come early, they would love to have them join them. It’ll be very informal, just a little serenade where people can come and go as they please.

Registration will begin at 6:15 p.m.  The meeting will start with our customary food and refreshment period where we convivially catch up with old and new friends at 6:30 p.m.; at 7:00 p.m. we will have a brief business meeting, and the program will commence thereafter.   More to come later.

Sincerely,

Angelika Schmidt-Lange
Secretary
