Our exchange students are safely back in Houston.  They had a wonderful time in Leipzig, and they enjoyed the great experience of being immersed in another culture.  Their enthusiasm still is overwhelming, and totally infectious.  We are still sorting through pictures and stories, but take a look at the gorgeous pictures and text in a related post.

On behalf of the students, their parents, the Houston-Leipzig Sister City Association and all its members, we deeply thank all who were involved in making such an outstanding experience possible.  You have raised the bar for hosting exchange students.

We do thank especially those who devoted time and resources on a one-to-one basis, Dr. Gabriele Goldfuss, Manuela Waechter, Prof.  Dr. Hartmut Keil, Dr. Wolfgang Zimmermann, Lisa Renner, KhetKhet Burger, Ingo Lehner, and Volker Bremer and Michael Steuer who made available Linda Blumenstein to accompany the high school students and document their and Houston musician Aaron Kaufman’s adventures in Leipzig.  If we have missed anyone, please let us know, so that we may thank that person separately.

A big Texas thank you also to the institutions that made such a success possible, the International Office of the City of Leipzig, our sister organization Staedtepartnerschaft Leipzig-Houston e.V., the Leipzig Tourism and Marketing Service, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

On this occasion, we would also like to express our appreciation for the never tiring efforts of our board member Rustin Buck and his helpers on the Houston side.  We are looking forward to meeting your Leipzig high school students later this year, and hope that they will have as good a time as did our Houston students.

In closing, thank you again to all who participated in making this summer exchange such a success.

Board of Directors,  Houston-Leipzig Sister City Association
