Today, Leipzig presented itself to its guest in the best light – after a couple days of rain the sun is shining again!

Our day started with a reception in the New City Hall, the view from its 110 m high tower was incredible, especially as the air was clear, not a single cloud in sight. And although it was hard to believe that there were only 254 steps to climb (felt like half a billion), we all enjoyed the fresh breeze up in the air. We finished our visit with a ride in a paternoster (a passenger elevator which consists of a chain of open compartments that move slowly in a loop up and down inside a building without stopping, passengers can step on or off at any floor they like) Admittedly a little bit frightening, but interesting as there are only very few ones left. A big Thank You to Manuela Wächter for guiding us through the City Hall!

Afterwards we participated in a guided walk through Leipzig’s city center. We were able to profit from our guide’s insider tips – she led us through adorable tiny passages, showed us fantastic things you might not notice on the first sight. Wonderful! For this thank you to our guide Birgit.

We of course also visited the bronze statues of Faust and Mephisto (from J. W. Goethe’s famous “Faust”). It is said that after rubbing over Faust’s shoe, you will lead a life in happiness and fortune. So we all should be set for life now. 😉

In the afternoon, the kids will visit the Monument of the Battle of Nations and tomorrow will be their first time in a German school, exciting! We’ll have a big BBQ in the evening, members of our association will participate, too.

Jenny’s, Eric’s and Randy’s German skills are very good, so we mostly speak German, a perfect exercise for our guests.

Thank you also to the people of Leipzig Tourist Management who make all this happen for us and our guests.

Have a nice day, we’ll keep you posted.

Lisa

P.S.: Yesterday (Sunday), we saw “Carmina Burana”, fantastic! Both the ballet ensemble and the choir were impressive.
